Beacon Construction Consultants Inc. is a firm of Professional Quantity Surveyors and Construction Cost Consultants, controlled by principals who are members of the Canadian Institute of Quantity Surveyors, the Quantity Surveyors Society of British Columbia and/or Members of the Royal Institution of Chartered Surveyors.
The company has been established in Victoria since 1998 and is an amalgamation of two professional practices, Geoff Hadley & Associates Inc. and Tony White & Associates Inc., both of which were well established Victoria practices. The principals have extensive experience in the construction and development industries.
We currently work for many institutional and private clients as well as developers and financial institutions throughout Vancouver Island, the Gulf Islands and occasionally on the Mainland. We have provided cost consulting, mortgage monitoring, estimating, dispute resolution, project management, and other financial services on construction projects totalling over three billion dollars in value for both private clients and government agencies in Western Canada. The projects have ranged in size up to $100 million and our experience covers virtually every aspect of the construction industry including new residential, institutional, industrial and commercial projects as well as projects involving renovations, seismic upgrading and exterior envelope remediation.
Beacon Construction Consultants Inc. recognizes that the goal of all owners is to obtain the best possible facility within the available budget. We contribute to this goal by providing continuous and timely cost advice, cost planning and value management during the design stages of the project. We prepare estimates at the recognized stages of the design, or as required by the client and design team, and we provide cost advice to the design team if required at all stages of the design process.
We work with the design team to confirm the initial budget at the schematic design estimate stage and will monitor this budget through a series of estimates, culminating in the final pre-tender estimate for the project within the agreed budget. If at any time during the design process we find the projected costs to be exceeding the budget parameters, we will work with the design team to instigate changes that will bring the project back into line with the budget.
The pricing of all the estimates will be specific, based upon current prices researched in the project market area through general contractors, trade contractors and suppliers at the time each estimate is prepared. We keep abreast with current market conditions and future trends in the construction industry through Associate Membership of the Construction Association.
We contribute our expertise to the value management of the project. We make suggestions about the design while carrying out the estimates when we believe that the proposed concept can be achieved through a different means that will be less costly without compromising the design intent.
